One of the longest-running cross-game threads in the series, connecting a single act of mercy in Chapter 1 to the fate of Antaria fifty years later.
Vincent Bernstein — the Act That Starts It
Captain of the Seven Knights, later Imperial Governor of Cutis. At Moonshade Forest in Chapter 1, he corners the fleeing Pandragon refugees and deliberately lets them escape — framing it as 'driving them into Bifrost' rather than capture. He has his own grievances against Beradin's regime and acts on them through honourable inaction.
The Staged Death
His public 'assassination' (Chapter 6) is staged: on Beradin's orders, Hanzo carries out a fake killing to remove Vincent from power without revealing he's still alive. Duke Stellian is installed as his replacement, and the killing is publicly blamed on Arcia Landino's Cutis Liberation Army.
Vincent survives in hiding, and resurfaces twice to help the Alliance from the shadows — aiding G.S and Landam's infiltration of Cutis Castle (Chapter 9), and helping the Cutis army retreat after a defeat during the Four Imperial Guardians' occupation (Chapter 26). Purged by Beradin and with nowhere left to go, he formally joins Silver Arrow in Chapter 29 — alongside Gishne, equally unable to return to the Empire after spending the whole arc investigating Beradin undercover. Whether he ever learns what his mercy at Moonshade set in motion, or reconnects personally with Iyolin and Lacid, isn't confirmed yet.
