Guide
Note: the following is subjective NamuWiki community opinion (KR server).
Performance: Base class is Fighter. Tier 2 has the unique class "Nightwalker"; Tier 3 classes are Swordmaster / Dark Prince ("huh?") / Joker. His ultimate finally brings the signature Genesis series technique Asura Pacheonmu. Unique passive is "Prince's Double Life": on action end, if no other ally is within 2 tiles, once per turn he gains an unremovable buff granting first-strike, TP-removal immunity, crit chance 10-30%, and stealing 1 TP on combat attack. Also, after attacking and killing an enemy, once per turn he gains an extra action if HP is below a threshold or extra move if above. Because Mugeuk Jingwangseom keeps his HP low, the extra-action condition is easy to meet, and the TP theft works like a payback, making it a very useful passive.
Classes: Tier 3 has Swordmaster (high attack up), Dark Prince (good offense/defense balance), and Joker (solo-action assassin focus).
- Dark Prince is the recommended 1st priority to build. Beyond its good offense/defense balance, it learns the exclusive skill Mugeuk Jingwangseom, one of the best damage skills in the game. Its passive "Heir of Darkness" raises attack up to 40% in combat, gives 25% damage reduction, and grants a "Darkness Veil" buff (up to 3 stacks) that ignores AoE damage on crit. Its defensive performance is excellent, so Dark Prince is a good pick for mindless auto-play or endurance-heavy raids where you often stand next to allies.
- Swordmaster's passive "Sword Master" has excellent attack up plus HP recovery, well balanced. Its skill Gongaseom fires a 170%-multiplier single hit with crit chance +30%, then adds the "Gale" buff for 2 turns (basic attacks deal a 30%-attack extra hit); high performance.
- Joker is another exclusive class on the Nightwalker - Joker tree, learning the exclusive skills Biyeongtuhon and Ingenious. Both Nightwalker and Joker move 1 tile farther than other jobs. Its passive "Trump Card" ignores enemies while moving/passing through, raises attack up to 50% and cuts counter damage up to 50% when no ally is within 2 tiles, and once per turn cuts incoming enemy damage up to 50%. Ingenious is broken and synergizes perfectly with the job passive and unique passive, plus the long movement, so it is usually recommended as the endgame class. Since Mugeuk Jingwangseom is so strong, it is convenient to take Dark Prince first and then route into this.
Exclusive skills and ultimate:
- Biyeongtuhon: pick a direction, deal 80% attack to enemies within 4 forward tiles while piercing through them to the farthest empty tile; applies "Weakness Exposed" debuff (received damage +10%, chance to be crit +10%) for 2 turns, with an extra application on crit. Decent, but overshadowed by Mugeuk Jingwangseom, Ingenious, and Jilju, so mainly used for gimmick-solving.
- Mugeuk Jingwangseom: Scharnhorst's super main skill, surpassing the ultimate. Consumes all TP, gains 10% crit chance per TP spent, deals defense-ignoring damage of 120% attack plus 10% of max HP per TP spent, then loses that much HP; an ultra-high-risk ultra-high-return single-target nuke. It one-shots most characters except Valkyrie characters with no-crit passives and characters with revive skills; an instant-kill. Cooldown is only 2 turns (same as Yeonseom / Danwolseom), so Scharnhorst deletes one enemy every 2 turns with Mugeuk. Using it on turn 1 with 3 TP costs 30% HP, and since 6-awakening Scharnhorst's extra-action HP condition is exactly 70%, deleting an enemy at the start immediately grants an extra action.
- Ingenious: reflecting the setting that he mastered both Kingdom and Empire swordsmanship, lets you pick one of 3 random sword/greatsword attack skills. Cooldown follows the used skill; choices are randomized per stage and re-randomized after each use. Skills of characters added after Scharnhorst are also added to the pool. Strong random pick since the technique pool is huge; getting Ice's Seolhwa Nangyeok or Black Prince's Ammyeong Yeonsalgeom feels like a jackpot. In PvP, if the opponent's Scharnhorst runs Ingenious, the unpredictability makes the attacker wary, useful for defense-deck strategy (?). However, it is unsuited for players who dislike randomness (e.g. in auto PvP it may skip Mugeuk and use another skill, failing to cut the enemy's key character and dying), so some just run Danwolseom instead.
- Asura Pacheonmu (ultimate): AoE dealing 125-140% attack to enemies within 3 rings; before use, loses 50% of remaining HP and crit damage increases up to 40%. Since he has no Dark Blood, faithfully implements the setting that he forces Asura into submission by strength. Its attack range is far wider than other ultimates (a plus), but its raw multiplier equals Cheonjiparyeolmu, and its attack attribute is somehow Strike-type, so it gets +25% bonus vs tank-line Heavy Armor but takes a -25% damage penalty against the mostly Medium-armor enemies in this game. So despite being strong, it feels weaker than its reputation; and Scharnhorst is too busy using Mugeuk Jingwangseom to use it often.
Recommended gear: Exclusive weapon is Stormblinger (raises attack and crit chance; on a combat crit where the enemy survives, deals 25-50% extra lightning damage and applies Shock for 1 turn; also, Scharnhorst-exclusive, when HP drops below 50% grants an attack-scaling shield for 2 turns; cooldown 4 turns at base, 3 turns from 5-star). The shock (blocks counters) and shield both suit Scharnhorst whose HP is constantly wrecked by Mugeuk. A high-awakening Stormblinger is good enough that other Slash characters borrow it in Marjanggi / endurance raids.
- Armor: Legendary set is the Raven set (Third Grand-Uncle costume motif) raising crit damage and crit chance. With enough crit chance secured, the Assassin set (Master costume motif) raising attack and crit damage is also used. Since Mugeuk Jingwangseom deals defense-ignoring damage every 2 turns, physical penetration is low-value, so the Ilgidangcheon set (Nangcheon costume motif, attack + phys pen) is rarely used. Hero-tier: use the Assassin set (crit chance + crit damage), or Assassin2 for crit chance plus Hyeopgaek2 for attack.
- Accessories: for peak damage, Arrowhead; for both damage and survival, Ancient Hero's Ring. At hero grade, Amulet of Worsening Wounds is appropriate. Wolf Fang is not recommended due to Mugeuk's defense-ignoring damage.
Evaluation: The game's best single-target burst dealer. Played like an assassin who stays away from allies, ignores enemies to move, and instantly kills the target; taking Dark Prince to learn Mugeuk Jingwangseom then switching to Joker to use it creates a broken character combining long movement, powerful defense-ignoring damage, and high crit chance. He is essential for clearing Brave's Grave (up to floor 50, excluding floors 11 and 20): a recommended tactic is full-damage setup, receiving Medici's / Randam's move+attack buffs and a healer's attack buff, then using Rina's Recall to move near the target and pinpoint-assassinate it with Mugeuk Jingwangseom. He does at least one person's worth of work in any deck. He dimmed slightly when Black Prince launched for the early-25 1st anniversary, but Scharnhorst still narrowly leads in single-target burst; and since Ingenious's pool includes exclusive skills of characters added after him, there is a joke that he gets indirect buffs whenever a new character is added, so his future is bright too. Securing him is never a loss. As of Jan '26, with the start of Rhapsody of Zephyr, Asura Pacheonmu can now hit Banished-state targets. Tempest is expected to resume within '26, and a Scharnhorst buff is anticipated, so a second golden age may come. (Honestly he is not bad even now.)
