Arrogant and overly confident, he tends to look down on those of lower status or who seem easy to deal with. Still, his feelings for Pandragon are genuine, and he takes real pride in being a Paladin.

Contempt Turns Dark
During the Chapter 3 Gigantes crossing, his contempt for status curdles into something genuinely ugly: he picks fights with G.S over his manner as a commoner guide, kills a Kelifer outright over what he calls rude words, and — in the "Opposition" incident on the way to Laika Village — massacres a hut full of unarmed Kelifer civilians against Iyolin's direct order, leaving G.S disgusted by what he's done.
Repressed Feelings
Searching the Ice Castle for the missing Lacid in Chapter 4, Locarno and Iyolin split up to cover more ground — and unlike Iyolin, Locarno feels disappointment that they have to separate just when they finally have a moment alone together, an early hint of the feelings that surface openly at the Chapter 10 victory banquet.
