Chief's Crown II

With Hastings Castle recaptured, the Silver Arrow forces take advantage of the momentum and march straight for Pandragon Castle. Word reaches Griam Lang that Castle Hastings has fallen; still reeling from the failed Astania invasion, he urgently requests reinforcements from the Empire.

The Imperial Army stationed at Wake Fields deploys the superweapon Manes to counter the advancing Alliance, but is pushed back and forced to abandon its forward defenses. A high wizard capable of reclaiming Manes joins the Imperial line, reigniting their counterattack — but the Imperial Guard falls one by one under Silver Arrow's relentless assault.

Just as the tide seems settled, the Alliance is caught off guard by a surprise attack that breaks their formation: Imperial armsman Feathermund wields Black Manes, an upgraded version of Manes, to drive them back. Feathermund turns the cannon on the Alliance's follow-up forces, but is defeated; his final counterattack through Black Manes fails, and the Silver Arrow Alliance claims victory at Wake Plains.

Having lost the field, Griam appeals to Beradin at the Dark Castle for aid — but Beradin refuses, departing for Bifrost to pursue his own agenda. Disappointed but resolved, Griam falls back to occupy Castle Pandragon and steels himself for a final stand.

The Silver Arrow Alliance reaches Castle Pandragon and launches its assault; Griam and the remaining Imperial forces make their desperate last stand as the rear line collapses. Griam refuses to retreat, while his lieutenant Rovel Fields — true to form — looks only for a way to escape. Before the throne, Iyolin and Griam duel directly; she kills him, and Silver Arrow wipes out what remains of the Imperial garrison, reclaiming the castle.

Alone before the empty throne, Iyolin is overcome with emotion at having retaken Pandragon. With the war still ongoing, she and Draupnir Mond begin plotting their next move against the Empire — and with the Alliance's full backing, Iyolin ascends the throne as Queen of Pandragon.

This corrects an earlier guess in this compendium that Griam Lang fell at the Wake Plains battle itself: he actually survives it — the Empire loses the field, but Griam personally retreats — and is only killed later, in single combat against Iyolin, once the Alliance storms Castle Pandragon itself.
