Kosmos Discs

The core of the Seeds, which manages the cyclical repetition of Inner World history.

The Kosmos System can run history simulations without limit so that the flow of history cycles smoothly. It can model an enormous range of situations: minor and major clashes, full-scale wars, the definition of relationships between specific figures, experiments on error rates, and more. The results of each simulation are automatically uploaded to the Seeds' computer cloud, where the Seeds may review them. Access to that information, of course, differs greatly depending on a Seed's rank and office.

A safe facility built to protect the Kosmos System and the Seeds in the event of an emergency.

The Ark houses the main body of the Kosmos System, the history simulator known as the Inner World, and various training facilities and databases. Access to its sections is restricted according to a Seed's grade. It is said that the Ark was created to shelter the Seeds and the Kosmos System after the Recount incident.

Newly created Seeds almost all begin their training here. Enemies are generated using the Ether data of every figure who has ever existed in recorded history, so the variety of possible combinations is boundless. The Seeds System is agile and highly refined; to advance toward a progressive history, the Seeds are divided into several ranks.

Four grades, from A to D, have been confirmed so far. Grade A consists of the twenty-four Numbering Seeds, who oversee the major tuning of history and also raise the lower grades. Grade B assists Grade A in the work of tuning history; possessing selfhood, they each follow a particular Grade A Seed whom they revere. Grade C takes direct part in minor missions, handling small roles in history and responding nimbly as circumstances require. Grade D merely carries out the commands entered into it and is granted no selfhood.

The Kosmos System judged that Seeds without the capacity for keen independent judgment, that is, without selfhood, could not cope with high error rates.

For this reason it programmed independent Seeds, each with its own individuality and selfhood, to form and manage the rank structure. In particular, among the several grades, the twenty-four Grade A Numbering Seeds are responsible for the major tuning of history. The Numbering Seeds refer to one another not by plain numbers but by special code names, and the final position, Omega, is currently vacant.

A very flighty and intensely curious Seed, Alpha enjoys leaping into history to experience it firsthand. Alpha directs the whole of the Kosmos simulation, whose purpose is the stable cycling of Antaria's history. Lately Alpha has found the Book of Antaria, the standard guideline for Antarian history, far too dull, and wishes it would develop a little further. Alpha uses the Seeds' default body and, claiming to have not yet found a figure to their liking, goes about draped in a black robe. Alpha acts as a partner to Psi (ψ), ranked twenty-third.

With cold reason and meticulous calculation, Psi is responsible for the security of the Kosmos System. Psi holds that personal taste is unimportant and that keeping to the rules is what matters most. Of late, an error code of unknown origin has arisen, causing considerable trouble. Psi uses the body of 'Joanne Cartwright' and acts as a partner to Alpha (α), ranked first.

An Outer One refers to an entity that has intruded into the Kosmos System from somewhere outside without authorization.

Their Ether signatures are not registered in the Seeds' computers, making precise analysis or tracking impossible. Even so, each is presumed to possess tremendous Ether power and combat strength strong beyond prediction. In some cases a figure already registered in the internal data has fused with intruding external data and awakened; these too are classified as Outer Ones.

Ultimate Grima is an Ether-replenishing technique devised by the dark god Deimos that absorbs surrounding Ether into the body for use.

By using Ultimate Grima, one absorbs and circulates the surrounding Ether to surpass one's own limits. However, if the amount of Ether absorbed exceeds the threshold the user's body can bear, the balance of Ether collapses and the user loses their selfhood or their form disintegrates. For this reason, when using Ultimate Grima one must carefully control both the amount and the speed of Ether absorption.

Asura is a Grima-form sword that Carl Steiner summons by transforming his arm.

It exists in nature in the form of Ether, and it moves, vanishes, is summoned, and transforms in response to particular Ether power. In its complete form, Asura absorbs the Ether power of surrounding living things without limit, and its destructive force grows in proportion to how much it takes in. It makes no exception even for the sword's own owner, so without some countermeasure it will damage even the wielder's body. Absent any large error rate, its principal wielders are confirmed to be Carl Steiner, Cyrano Bernstein, Clausewitz Pendragon, Philip Pendragon, and Vermode.

A Chaos Cube is a medium that absorbs and stores human Ether.

It is presumed to have arisen naturally in the earliest days of the universe, and its exact origin is unknown. In the Arke civilization, Chaos Cubes were used to harness energy by extracting, storing, and releasing the Ether of other people. Depending on the level of the Chaos Cube and of the Ether power, its applications are wide-ranging: ultra-long-range mass teleportation, piloting high-output War Mecha, weapons embedded with ultimate techniques, the fabrication of Doll bodies, and more.

It is understood to have grown even stronger after absorbing part of the Ether power of the fire dragon Hellkite. Absent any large error rate, its principal wielders are confirmed to be Carls Brandt, Cyrano Bernstein, Clausewitz Pendragon, Philip Pendragon, and Albertini de Medici.

The Seeds compare events against this guideline to calculate and adjust the error rate. It is, in effect, a basic instruction manual. When newly born Seeds must be trained in history, there is no better teaching material to be found.

The standard error rate, which serves as the baseline for current error-rate measurement, is re-collated by the Kosmos System after each cycle ends, steadily refining the standard historical model so that stable cycles can be maintained. This standard error rate is closely tied to the contents of the Book of Antaria produced in each cycle. Yet no one knows how greatly the contents of long-past cycles differ from those of the current one. The history from before the Recount Incident, in particular, is known as uncharted territory.

It has been confirmed that Outer Ones intruding from some unknown place outside use a special ore to amplify their power.

Internally we have given the ore the provisional name 'Carnilite.' The structure of Ether flow this ore produces under Ether reaction is markedly different from that of a Chaos Cube. Unlike a Chaos Cube, which allows Ether to be freely injected and released, a fixed quantity of Ether lies frozen within it, as though it had always been that way. With our current knowledge, using Carnilite is impossible. Further research will be needed.

Compared with an Original Doll in which real Ether has settled, it is far inferior in performance, durability, and stability, and the abilities of a generated mass-production Doll are determined by the Kosmos System based on assessments derived from the Seeds' observations.

True Snowflake Chaotic Shadow Cut is a swordsmanship that excessively amplifies the fresh blood infused with the user's Ether power.

Once this swordsmanship is invoked, the technique will never stop until both the user's Ether and fresh blood are entirely spent. It was devised by Ice Pendragon of the Kingdom of Pendragon, and throughout the whole of Antaria's history the only user is likewise Ice Pendragon. The moment the technique unfolds, blood bursts from the whole body, the falling snow is dyed red, and a vision of hell spreads before the eyes. Had this technique been used on a battlefield, it is said only a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood would have remained. Later, the one and only witness to this technique, the Black Prince, named it 'Sea of Corpses and Blood.'

A form of Dark Blood, the Devil tribe's innate regenerative ability, that can be transferred.

It was created by the dark god Deimos, who possessed the greatest knowledge of biotechnology. The regenerative effect itself differs little from ordinary Dark Blood, but it can be transferred to another person by the user's will. Transferable Dark Blood was created by accident during Deimos's research, so no established method of manufacture exists and only a single instance of it exists. Its principal users are confirmed to be Richard Remarque, Cyrano Bernstein, Christina Frederick, Albertini de Medici, and Vermode.

That said, it does not happen to just anyone, and further research into the conditions and qualifications for its occurrence will be needed.

Asura's current state is like gathering the Ether of all humankind and running it as a small simulation inside a vast spacecraft.

Real life is not being lived out, but because Ether disperses if it does not flow, it is barely maintained by being circulated through the Inner World. In the end, the Ark and Infinity Asura are a kind of 'preservation device' for storing humanity in the form of Ether. Outside, history has already ended; inside, it is carried on, repeated like a mock experiment. And so, if an entity possessing real Ether should die outside the Inner World, that Ether may scatter into the cosmos and never be recovered.

What the Seeds call 'Outer Data' is clearly real Ether.

It is certain that real Ether fuses with the Ether code within the Inner World to become an Outer One or an Inner Break. Rather than mere coincidence, given the connective structure between Infinity Asura and the Inner World, it is highly likely this was designed by someone. Since the Seeds cannot perceive the existence of the Outers, the system's designer is presumed to be a figure or faction separate from the Seeds.

The Inner World consists of seven channels in total, and the Kosmos System's seven cores are connected in parallel to each channel.

Each channel can be considered a separate parallel world, and the Kosmos cores tune history by synthesizing the simulation results of every channel. For example, a single historical figure might be realized in a different channel with a separate Ether code and mass-production Doll, in which case the system may judge and synchronize their memories or experiences. Conversely, if data is deleted in one channel for some reason, that figure's existence is reconstructed as vanished in the other channels as well.

It is evident that both the Outer One and the Inner Break arise from Ether fusion.

So why is the Outer One special? It is highly likely to be a figure the Kosmos System has singled out as an inflection point capable of greatly changing history. What is clear is that the current goal of the Kosmos System differs from that of the Seeds' former Sigmund System. What its intent may be is difficult to predict.

So what, then, is this system's ultimate goal? It is not mere reproduction of the past. Kosmos does not simply maintain stable trajectories amid countless repetitions; through crises and mutations it creates new order and forcibly breaks humanity through into evolution. In other words, the Kosmos LWM is not a mere simulator but an engine that mimics the creation of heaven and earth.
