Chapter 28
Castle of Heaven II
Heaven's Castle activates for G.S alone — the fortress recognises a bloodline no one yet understands.
Traces of the Gods
Arriving at the Island of Swords, Lacid's party finds their way to the Sword Temple and places Stormbringer on its altar. A sudden light reveals a record — later identified as belonging to Prios — telling of the people of Arche, psychically-gifted people who launched the Odyssey project to reach a distant star system. A crew with psychic abilities piloted a ship built around a psionic engine that amplified their combined power; the Odyssey, carrying 100 passengers, made the leap and arrived at a planet resembling their home world, Arche, which they named Antaria. The toll was immediate — 75 of the 100 fell into a coma on arrival, the rest suffered painful aftereffects — and the follow-up expedition they waited for never came.
Genesis
At the Scepter's Temple on the Island of the Scepter, placing the Scepter of Glory on its altar continues the record: despite years passing, the 25 survivors' bodies hadn't aged. While waiting for a rescue that never came, they bred plants and animals brought from home — and some went further, creating new life resembling themselves: the Antarians, who revered the people of Arche as their creators and multiplied rapidly. But since each Antarian creature served a different individual creator, conflicts spread over whose god was the true one — friction that drove the 25 explorers to split into two rival factions, the Physics faction under Captain Prios and the Biology faction under former vice-captain Deimos. As time passed, the rift only widened, until it turned to war.
History of Blood
At the Island of the Coffin, the trail goes cold for now — whatever record waited at the Temple of the Coffin's own altar isn't recovered. But at the Island of the Crown, placing the Chief's Crown on its altar reveals the continuation: the Biology faction transformed their own bodies and turned on the Physics faction, who fought back with Machina. Their clash triggered an unforeseen catastrophe — their comatose former comrades suddenly woke, not peacefully, but as monsters, destroying everything around them with psychic power of their own. Unable to stop them even with their strongest weapon, the gods fled, relocated the Castle of Heaven to a remote island at the edge of the sea — the same island Lacid's party now stands on — and entered collective hibernation to buy the time needed to build an Ultimate Machina capable of standing against their transformed comrades.
The Sky Fortress
Lacid's party discovers the Chamber of the Gods, where the gods still slumber, and the Machina Asmodeus resting in the Sky Fortress alongside them. At the fortress's Central Control Room, the party tries to move it and fails — until Lacid suggests G.S give it a try. Doubtful, G.S attempts it anyway, and to everyone's surprise, the Sky Fortress begins to move.
Lacid reconfirms everything he's seen and heard through a conversation with Xavier — the same Ice Dragon bonded to him since Chapter 4. With the fortress finally under their control and communication with Dagal possible again, Lacid tries to reach the kingdom — only for what he hears back to leave the whole party frozen in shock.
Heaven's Castle and the Esprit Bloodline
The most consequential recovery in the whole campaign is Heaven's Castle — the Stronghold in the Sky, a colossal ancient flying fortress. The circumstances of its activation are crucial. Both the Imperial sage Grishne and Lacid himself attempt to activate the fortress and fail. G.S is the only person who succeeds.
The reason: the twelve Lord Gods left their legacy specifically for the Esprit bloodline. G.S — the Black Prince, though no one including himself knows it yet — carries that bloodline, and the fortress responds to him where it responded to no one else. This is one of the most significant early hints at who G.S actually is beyond the ranger identity: the fortress built by gods recognises him.
At the fortress's Seal of the Gods, offering up the recovered sacred treasures triggers a revelation: the party learns the history of the world — the first lifting of the curtain on what the gods truly are. The strategic payoff is immediate: the Sky Stronghold solves Silver Arrow's chronic supply problem, the exact weakness that doomed Iyolin in the desert. Meanwhile Grishne works with Draupnir Mond to decode the fortress's ancient records and locate the Odyssey.
